HOW TO BREATHE
Breathwork can be a powerful and accessible tool for all to use not only for better balance but also to help manage conditions such as anxiety, depression, other mood disorders, fatigue, stress, diabetes and heart disease. If you don't really care about any of that keep in mind that it's also great to use just for general relaxation!
To help you understand more about the benefits of breathing exercises and more about the concept of dynamic relaxation I have enclosed an excerpt from the work of Dr Saul Miller below. Remember the goal when first learning how to connect with the breath is to focus on doing breathing exercises at first at least twice a day (once in the morning and once in the evening). As you grow in practice and become more cognizant of your breath try to incorporate the connection you have developed to your day to day life..for example when you're at the Wal-Mart! Over time you should notice that you enjoy a more peaceful and relaxed state as you strengthen your mind-body connection.
Relaxing is balancing.
It feels good.
It helps us to recharge.
It promotes health, healing and longevity.
Relaxing also enhances the function of our brain and nervous system.
It balances the activity of the left and right cerebral hemispheres.
It improves the quality of our thoughts and images.
It reduces "mental static".
It enhances perception, awareness, memory, and judgement.
It brings more ease and pleasure to the moment.
The bottom line? Relaxation supports your total well-being and the way you perform. There are many approaches to relaxation.
Dynamic relaxation is a way to release and recharge. The technique will enable you to release "blocks" and draw more power to you. It will connect you with the energy field around you and it will support you in expressing yourself with greater effectiveness, ease, and pleasure in whatever you do.
Dynamic relaxation is a way to stay calm and focused. You can use it to take a little "power break" or you can use the principle of release...breathe....and refocus in managing yourself with more grace and efficiency throughout the day.
There are 3 elements to the dynamic relaxation process. First....relaxed breathing, Second.....relaxed body, Third.....relaxed mind.
All of these elements blend and work together starting with the breath. Breath is a link between the mind and the body.
As you tune into your breathing, allow your awareness to expand to include the rise and fall of your physical body and the flow of energy to you and through you. As you breathe, feel yourself releasing tension and becoming calmer and clearer.
Relaxing the body calms the mind. Calming the mind harmonizes bodily function, feels comfortable, and enables us to breathe more freely and easily.
